CSL Yellow DRL Module Upgrade for G8X M3/M4 (one for each headlight)
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
We'll start with the passenger side, as it's slightly easier.
-
Lift & Secure the Vehicle: Park on a level surface. Loosen the front lug bolts, then lift the front of the car and secure it safely on jack stands. Chock the rear wheels.
-
Remove the Wheel & Fender Liner: Remove the front wheel. Now, use your 8mm and 10mm sockets and trim removal tools to remove all the bolts and plastic clips holding the fender liner in place. Carefully pull the liner out to expose the back of the headlight assembly.
-
Locate the DRL Module: Look at the bottom of the headlight housing. You will see a small, silver metal heatsink with fins held in by two Torx screws. This is the OEM DRL module you need to replace. -
Remove the OEM Module: Using a T20 Torx screwdriver, carefully remove the two screws holding the module in place. Once the screws are out, the module can be unplugged and removed. It may be a tight fit, so be patient.
-
Install the BayOptiks CSL Module: Before installing, apply the included thermal paste to the back of the new BayOptiks CSL Yellow DRL module. This is critical for proper heat dissipation. Carefully slide the new module into place, plug in the connector, and secure it with the two T20 Torx screws.
-
Test Before Reassembly! At this point, lower the car just enough to reconnect the battery (if you disconnected it) and turn on the car's daytime running lights. Confirm that the new DRL is illuminating yellow.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall the fender liner and the wheel. Lower the car fully, and use your torque wrench to tighten the lug bolts to the factory spec (140 Nm / 103 ft-lbs).
-
Repeat for the Driver's Side: The process is identical for the driver's side.
The Final Result
The aggressive, CSL-inspired look is unmistakable and gives your M3 or M4 a commanding road presence, day or night.
